Third Time's the Charm
What do a physical therapist and a high-end jewel thief have in common? The same bullet. Two break-ins, a botched jewel heist, and a murder set the stage for a complex set of events that put both the thief and the physical therapist at the wrong end of a rifle.
Third Time’s the Charm is a fast-moving murder mystery full of twists and turns. A home invasion results in the murder of a childhood friend of Melinda Stark’s son. The perky physical therapist immediately inserts herself into the investigation to help solve it, unknowingly becoming a pawn in a game she has no idea she’s been drafted into.
Melinda’s newest patient, Dominic Gallo has been hired by a billionaire bad guy to steal two priceless Egyptian charms. He misses the handoff and hides the charms in his sister’s gift shop while he figures out his next move. The charms are inadvertently sold by his sister’s assistant. The cash receipt yields only an illegible name. With no other option, he begins breaking into homes of people whose names look similar to the one on the receipt. The third name on his list is Melinda Stark.
While Melinda pursues the murder investigation of her son’s friend, Dominic tries to find out if she has the charms. The twists and turns continue to pile up as Gallo and his wife end up becoming friends with Melinda and her homicide detective boyfriend. Dominic’s client goes completely off the rails and threatens to end of the lives of both Melinda and Dominic if the charms are not returned to him immediately.
The nail-biting ending comes when the murderer, the charms, and Melinda’s relationship to Dominic’s client are revealed, leading to an explosive showdown that no one sees coming.

Focused Hocus Pocus
Halloween, the night of ghosts and goblins, witches and zombies, disguise and illusion, is the perfect canvas for a killer to cloak his handiwork in plain sight. While taking a friend’s son trick or treating, Melinda Stark and Indie Porter, best friends and physical therapy business partners, make a tragic discovery. The scariest decoration on the street, a life-sized dummy decked out in a witch costume, complete with thick makeup, scraggly hair, and a pointy black hat, turns out to be a corpse. Another woman, a few streets over is found dead, adorned in exactly the same manner. Both victims are known to Melinda and Indie, as they are patients as well as dear friends.
The police believe this is a budding serial killer as both were widows in their sixties, living alone. Even though the police can find no commonality in the victims, Melinda comes to believe there is something more personal going on, and launches into her own investigation.
This fast moving story pits Melinda against a master of illusion and deception. When the killer discovers that she has successfully found the costume shop where the he had bought the witch outfits for his victims, he knows she’s going to be trouble. He wants the police to believe he is a serial killer. If discovered, his personal connection to the victims would lead them straight to his door. Melinda, it would seem, is beginning to connect the dots.
With rhyming notes the killer moves the detectives around like pieces on a chessboard, keeping them chasing their tails always threatening further kills, thoroughly enjoying the mental swordplay. He, however, finds himself becoming more unsettled by Melinda’s actions. She’s digging in places that might unearth his true motives and identity.
In one attempt to back Melinda off, he sends her a brightly wrapped box with balloons on top. Inside, is a black pointed witch hat and a note that reads: “As bodies collect like so much dust, perhaps another is a must. Right now, however, I’m somewhat vexed, as I can’t decide who will be next. Should it be you, I’ve decided that, your costume, dear, will need a hat.”
As the tension builds and others are put in harm’s way, the killer and Melinda inch ever closer to each other. Who will come out on top? Who will win the game?
